It is easy to say that Amazon is dominating the retail industry. This has caused Walmart to pick up their game. Walmart has partnered with Google Express along with adding Pickup Discounts, Online Grocery Delivery, and Grocery Pickup Service. The Pickup Towers are already in over 200 stores which began in 2017 and with great success, are adding around 500 more this year.
How it works:
- Place your order on Walmart.com
- You will receive an email letting you know your order is ready
- The customer will scan a bar code at the kiosk and their order will be retrieved
These towers stand around 16 feet and are located near the entrances. For bulk items Walmart is adding lockers so big items such as TVs can be picked up with the same convenience as smaller items. More than 500,000 orders have been picked up so far from the towers and Walmart is expecting the orders to explode. Some stores do have the towers at the back of the store in which customers may buy more product walking through to pick up their order. Since Amazon has acquired their market for groceries, Walmart hopes this will compete with pick convenience against Amazon.
Walmart is updating the online grocery store which is now partnered with Japanese eCommerce giant Rakuten. Customers will place their grocery order by using the Rakuten App. Walmart is also taking advantage of Rakuten's eBook store called Kobo in hopes to compete with Amazon Kindle.
Have A Great Day!
